Flash Back: An “oral” history of Flash

In this essay, I make an informal outline of the history of Flash and its cultural legacy. I tell the narrative with a series of personal anecdotes about using the web in the 00s. Newgrounds gets a mention for preserving and continuing Flash culture with Ruffle and Flash Forward!

Root is a board game full of great art but very minimal lore and no canon. This fanfic is me exploring a version of the game’s setting built on my own worldbuilding.

We got a job offer that was too juicy to pass up. Retrieve a super-secret super-treasure. Change the course of the Woodland War. We’ll even get half-pay in advance!

We just have to get into a heavily guarded Marquise fortress. And break into a secure lab. And make it back in one piece. With the target. This should be as easy as finding a pinecone in the Rootward Forest.

Beverage Depot

This is by far the longest story I’ve written, with almost all of the words written during NaNoWriMo 2020. I wanted to explore the setting of Zootopia and see more of how life in the city works, so I show the city through a different lens than the movie’s main characters. It’s a story with almost all OCs taking place in an area with minimal screen time in the movie.

A capybara and a raccoon walk into a liquor store.

There’s no punchline. Not only are we working at the busiest liquor store in Zootopia, it’s also the weekend before the big holiday. The only routine for today is to expect the unexpected.

What I’m playing 😼🚋 Jazztronauts

I blog about the indie games I play. I particularly focus on under-the-radar indie games rather than the indie darlings. The point of the articles is to show off and recommend these games that I think deserve a signal boost, which recommendation algorithms and word of mouth are missing.

This one is about a technically impressive Garry’s Mod game mode that essentially takes place inside the Steam Workshop.

How to Teach Root

A friend once asked me for tips on teaching Root to new players. I wrote so much I thought it was worth it to turn it into an actual article. This is a mini-notebook outlining the way I like to teach the game, with key talking points, FAQs, and explanations for the things that new players tend to misunderstand.
